How important were Republican reactions to the Wall Street Crash as causes of Roosevelt's success in the presidential election of 1932?

In 1932 there were elections in the USA. The main candidates were Hoover and Roosevelt, Roosevelt won. The reasons for his success are still being discussed.

To begin with, some people believe that the republican reactions to the wall street crash were the main reason for Roosevelt's success, since they refused to accept what was happening in the USA and they did not help people. Hoover was regarded as a "do nothing" president, he and all the republicans believed in the "Laissez-faire" policy which established that business should be left alone in order to bring prosperity back. Furthermore, they believed that social security was not a responsibility of the government and that relief should be provided by local governments and charities.

On the other hand, other people suggest that the main reason for Roosevelt's success was his own campaign. Roosevelt was democrat and with so much hate on Hoover and other republicans, the American people started to like him. Moreover, he promised a "New Deal" that it would supposedly help citizens. Roosevelt believed strongly in "active government", he planned to use the full power of the government to get the US out of the depression.

To conclude, it could be said that, while there are many good arguments for both points of view, the main reason for Roosevelt's success in 1932 presidential elections were the republican reactions to the wall street crash as they convinced people they needed a change.
